Black Hat Feng Shui.

Black Hat feng shui practitioner and expert Ellen Whitehurst did not begin her career in feng shui until after she had a successful career on Wall Street working for E.F. Hutton. When Ms. Whitehurst's parents became terminally ill, it piqued her interest in alternative medicines and holistic treatments, eventually leading her to feng shui. Ellen decided to go back to school and earned her degree in Transpersonal Psychology. After that, she left Wall Street for the world of Black Hat feng shui.

Black Hat Feng Shui Basics
LTK: Could you please explain the basics of the Black Hat school of feng shui?
EW: The Black Hat School, founded by the spiritual leader, H.H. Grandmaster Lin Yun, is primarily practiced here in the United States and in Europe. It is an evolution of traditional practice but is much more accommodating to the Western way of thinking.
Both traditional and Black Hat schools say there are nine different life stations that sit inside all of our spaces waiting for us to trigger them with our intentions. Both schools use a bagua map of those same energies to show where and how anyone can engage them.
Some Black Hat basics involve the use of the [[Bagua Map for Each Roombagua map, which gives a general idea of where each of the nine energies are located inside any space. The map we use to determine where specific or particular energies reside in your living space is a static map and doesn't change.
The premise here is that your external environment has a definite impact on your inner self. If you're experiencing negative vibes or energies in different areas of your life, you can adjust those energies by addressing synergistic areas inside your home!
Black Hat Tips and Cures
LTK: What are some quick Black Hat tips and cures?
EW: Feng shui says that if you divide up your main floor into nine equal grids the bottom center or middle grid (bottom represented by the same wall your front door is on) is the energetic area of your living space that is associated with job or career opportunities.
This same area that is associated with your job is also associated with the water element. Any symbol or actual representation of moving water in this area will also bring a flow to your job intentions such as:
Water fountain (the feng shui gold standard)
An aquarium or fishbowl
A picture of moving water
The real deal is of course the hope, but the energies can move swimmingly simply by affixing a picture of a waterfall anywhere in this same area. Water, water everywhere and then they’ll be plenty of job opportunities to dive into!
The relationship area is located on the upper right hand grid of the bagua map. Traditional feng shui symbols believed to bring activity to these energies of love and commitment are to put in pairs here. The number two represents or symbolizes partners or the two of you.
There is a special symbol in feng shui, called the Double Happiness Symbol that, when placed in this same love and romance area can create circumstances that will allow anyone to meet their soul mate.
The area most associated with the energy of abundance, wealth sits in the upper left hand corner of your living space. Some standard feng shui cures for activating the energies of this space call for you to place some symbol or image there that speaks to those same energies. A more sort of woo woo way to invite wealth into your life is to put a lamp or light in this area and light it. The idea here is to provide an illumined path so wealth can come and find you wherever you are.
The color associated with these intentions is purple and the number is four. Place four purple flowering plants here since the symbolism of growing your money is obvious. There is also a strong belief in the power of the jade plant to bring prosperity into the household in a quick and easy manner. Jade is considered the most precious of gems in the East since it’s also believed to bestow good health and happiness. Therefore, the custom has arisen that says placing a jade plant in the wealth area will help prosperity and abundance to bloom and grow.
Lucky Day Shui
LTK: You talk about "lucky day shui", can you please explain this concept?
EW: "Luck Day Shui" is one of the platforms of feng shui that I am dedicated to and passionate about sharing with anyone who has an interest in making the special days of their lives even more, well, special. I've blended my understanding and training in feng shui with my 20 plus years experience studying other holistic therapies, along with all the other cultural and traditional methods I’ve learned, together to offer a fresh, fun and easy approach to incorporating fortune and luck into all the situations and circumstances of life.

Shuistrology
LTK: The Shuistrology section of your website is fantastic, could expand on this concept?
EW: Shuistrology is my trademarked hybrid blend of astrology and feng shui.
We, as human beings have the power to use our intention and free will to change anything the stars have in store. That’s where Shuistrology comes in. I look at the forecast for all the astrological signs for any given month and determine if the particular horoscope looks like the energies will be fabulous or, on the other hand, if things could conceivably get a bit bumpy.
If the outlook is faboo, I offer quick fixes to enhance those great energies. If, however, the cosmic climate is a little cloudy, then I give some ideas and advice on how to overcome those energies. Shuistrology says that you are in charge regardless what’s happening in the heavens.
The Empowered Lifestyle
LTK: You speak about the "Empowered lifestyle", what are some feng shui principles people can apply to make them more empowered?
EW: The "Empowered Lifestyle" is what I call my particular brand of bringing health, happiness and prosperity into anyone's life by offering up all the advice and self-empowering info I have learned over the years. It's really just a contemporary spin put on some ages-old advice and then shared so that anyone interested can tackle their own life issues with confidence and power. That's our birthright, to be able to put ourselves on our desired path without any outside interference. The Empowered Lifestyle shows you the definitive "How To" of handling all of life’s circumstances; good, bad and the completely in your own power. After all, seriously, who can’t use a little more luck?
Ellen's Tips for the Empowered Lifestyle
Some of the principles I share with everyone in order to start becoming more empowered is first to remember the front door represents a critical space.
The Front Entrance
Called "The Mouth of Chi" this is where all the fresh and healthy energy enters your living space. One of the first empowering action steps anyone can take is to assess that area and make sure that everything there is:
Uncluttered
Clean
In good working order
Placing a red flowering plant to the left of the door as you look at it is an ancient practice and promises to invite opportunities as well as grand fortunes and good luck into your house.
Painting the door red or green portends those same powerful results while changing your outside light to a higher wattage bulb brings an electrical charge that can really light up your life. That same door should swing open without obstacles. The theory goes that if it's stuck then so will a lot of important energies your entire life.
Clutter
Clutter is a capital crime in feng shui. Everyone who is looking to empower their lives should be sure to get rid of everything that no longer represents who they are or their hopes, wishes and dreams. If you don’t love it, get rid of it. Period.
Fresh Air Equals Fresh Energy
Lastly, make sure to get as much fresh air and natural light in your space as possible. This single act enhances your own personal chi making you stronger and much more likely to believe in your own power then if you feel dark or stuffy or depressed. Lighten up. Literally. You won't believe the positive affect this can have on your entire life.
There are just a few ways that anyone can begin building their best life ever! Of course, reading my blog at [www.ellenwhitehurst.com Ellenwhitehurst.com] or grabbing a copy of Make This Your Lucky Day can take all of this a thousand steps further and bring anyone closer to their dreams than they ever believed possible. And if that ain’t lucky, well, I just don’t know what is!

Beyond Clutter

If It’s Broken Fix it
The next step after you have gotten rid of the clutter is to repair or replace anything that is broken. It’s easy to take this step beyond clutter if you make a checklist of items in need of repair.
Bathroom
Many things in the bathroom can create an energy drain and steal your money as surely as you flushed it down the toilet.
Repair dripping faucets - Leaking water means a slow but steady drain of your funds.
Leaky toilet seal – Replace the broken seal
Tank stopper – You don’t want your toilet to be running all the time. Replace with a tank stopper kit.
Always keep the toilet lid closed - An open lid means energy rushes from your home like a vacuum cleaner sucking up your resources and finances.
Replace depleted toilet paper and tissue boxes.
Replenish soap bars.
Kitchen
Many of your appliances can create chi energy drains, too. Move beyond clutter by going through your kitchen and take inventory of broken, damaged and partially functioning appliances.
Repair a broken ice maker.
Garbage disposals should work. Either repair, replace or remove.
Replace a Microwave ovens that only partially works.
Repair cooking range burners that no longer work.
Clean the oven regulary.
Throw away cracked or chipped china - Not only is it unattractive, bacteria can accumulate in the chipped away area or cracks.
Keep knives sharpened
Refill empty paper towel holders.
Replace missing utensils and silverware.
Repair or replace broken coffeemakers.

Beyond Clutter: Things You Can Do
There are several things you can do to assure the chi energy flows freely throughout your home.

Replace burned out light bulbs
Unclog stopped up or slow drains – Clogged sinks, shower, bathtub drains can stop the flow of chi and your finances.
Throw away full vacuum bags and replace with new one.
Replace broken windows.
Fix squeaky doors.
Tighten loose doorknobs.
Don’t leave brooms or mops leaning against doors - Place them inside a closet out of the way. A broom or mop creates sweeping away energy. You want good energy to enter your home and through your doorways, not to be swept away.
Don’t leave shoes at the front door - If you ask people to remove their shoes when they enter, then provide a place inside a closet to store the shoes. By leaving shoes at the front or even back door, you are allowing the energy and even shoe odor to travel with the entering chi throughout your home.
Make sure entryways and exits to your home are well-lit.
Don’t allow ice and snow to block the walkway and entranceways to your home.
Regularly paint exterior and interior of home.
Clean wall plates and fingerprints from doors and walls.
Get draperies dry-cleaned regularly - Make sure they are properly installed. If using rings with hooks keep threaded for a neat look.
Keep windows and mirrors clean.
Empty trash cans.
Other Forms of Clutter
You may not be aware that your choice of colors, patterns and designs can create a feeling of clutter. Go through your home room by room and see if the walls, floors, furniture, draperies and accessories go together. This will help you move beyond clutter.
Replace hodge-podge and mismatched pieces of furniture with new ones or have the pieces of furniture recovered - If working with a tight budget buy slipcovers.
Replace pillows with matching ones or sew new pillow slips.
Remove old wallpaper and paint walls to blend with room’s décor.
Organizing Your Home
Another way to ensure you take your feng shui techniques further, clean out drawers and cabinets and organize them for easy access.
Drawer dividers – Organizing helpers to keep utensils sorted.
Baskets – Great organizing tools for shelves, closets and bathrooms.
Storage – Purchase nice plastic tubs for long-term storage.
Closet systems – Cramped and disorganized closets created stagnant chi

Bed Locations Having to Do with Feng Shui.

Feng Shui Bedrooms
Once you apply basic feng shui principles to your bedroom, you will find that the environment is peaceful, calming and fosters a restful night of sleep. If you currently find that you wake up tired, no matter how many hours of rest you get, you need to learn more about bed locations having to do with feng shui in order to get your sleep cycles back on track. To get started, here are some feng shui bedroom basics:
Clutter disrupts rest – If your bedroom is currently filled with clutter, go through and clear it out. Only keep the things that have significant meaning to you in your bedroom.
Under the bed – Clear out everything from under your bed. The mess under your bed messes up your sleep cycles.
Color – Though color by itself does not generate chi energy, certain colors are definitely stimulating. Choose a neutral wall color and add splashes of stimulating colors via decorative accessories. This way, if you later find the color too stimulating, you can easily remove it from the room.
Once you apply these basic feng shui bedroom principles, move on to the more exacting principles involving bed locations and placement.
Bed Locations Having to Do with Feng Shui Principles
One of the most important things you can do to get a more restful nights sleep is to position your bed properly. Before moving things around, first look at two very important features of bedrooms that affect the positioning: windows and doors.
Windows
Ideally, the space in front of your bedroom windows should remain clear, but that isn't always the case, especially with smaller bedrooms. Here are a few feng shui principles as they relate to bed locations and windows:
Bed positioning under the window – If you can, avoid this position. Stimulating chi energy enters your window from the outside and prevents you from getting a restful night's sleep.
Bed positioning blocking the window – Though you don't want stimulating chi to enter your bedroom while you're resting, you also don't want to block the chi flow in the room. Placing a bed in front of a window blocks chi flow and creates stagnant chi.

Doors
Just like with windows, the space in front of your bedroom doors should also remain clear. This includes closet and bathroom doors. If your must position your bed near a door, be sure that your feet aren't facing toward the door opening. Referred to as the coffin position, it represents the dead.
Another reason to position your bed as far from the doors as possible, is that chi also enters through the door. This has a stimulating affect on your body and mind at a time when you are trying to rest both.
Feng Shui Bed Locations and Auspicious Directions
Another way bed locations have to do with feng shui is the direction in which the bed is facing. The best direction, whether you use the Eight Mansions or Flying Star feng shui principles, is based on your personal kua number. First, calculate your personal kua number. Then, position your bed according to the most auspicious directions for your personal number.
Positioning your bed according to the most auspicious direction for your personal kua number affects all aspects of your life, including those that pertain to the bedroom.
Bedroom Feng Shui Influences Your Whole Life
As you can see, bed locations have plenty to do with feng shui. Where you locate your bed greatly affects all areas of your life. Here's a simple way to think of it:
Improper placement of your bed means you won't get a restful night's sleep and you wake up tired.
When you wake up tired, you don't have as much mental clarity, which affects how you work.
When your work is sloppy, you are less likely to advance in your career.
When you don't advance in your career, this affects your income.
When money disappears, this usually affects your personal relationships.
When your personal relationships are affected, then you don't get a restful nights sleep and this negative chi cycle begins all over again.

Background My Space Feng Shui

Background My Space Feng Shui Style
Since you’re My Space page is literally your virtual space where you maintain an online presence for social or professional reasons, it is only natural to decorate it based on feng shui principles, such as the eight mansions and the Chinese five elements.

The first step is to identify the purpose of your page. Do you want to promote a new book or is your goal to share fun times with good friends? Maybe you use your page to share daily details about your children with their grandparents who live far away. Once you know the purpose, you can design the background to ensure you create the right energy.

Fire (red) represents fame, reputation, wealth, love.
Earth (brown, muted greens, stone colors, and shades of orange) symbolizes health.
Water (blue) provides the energy to enhance career, skills, and education.
Wood (purple, bright greens and brown tones) also is associated with education and skills as well as wealth.
Metal (white, gold, silver, gray) is good for My Space backgrounds for children, creativity, travel, and even love.

Ancient China Dragons.

The oldest known depiction of a dragon was discovered in 1984. It’s called the Coiled Dragon and was carved out of jade. The figure was found on the burial chest in an ancient cemetery dating to the Honshan era (4700 – 2920 BC). Other jade carvings of dragons have been found in abundance during the Liangzhu era (3300 – 2200 BC).

Nine Sons of Dragon King
Mythology states that the yellow dragon king had nine sons. They each were sent into the world with specific duties as protectors of the earth and its people. In feng shui philosophy, based upon the Chinese culture and belief system, the dragon symbolizes prosperity and abundance. The dragon (Lung) is powerful and can overcome all obstacles because it’s valiant and heroic. It’s also a great protector of the people.
The Four Dragons Myth
The story of the four dragons is one of several that explain the Chinese reverence for dragons. In ancient times the Jade Emperor ruled over the earth. The four dragons, Long Dragon, Black Dragon, Pearl Dragon, and Yellow Dragon asked the Jade Emperor to send rain to the drought-stricken world. The people were dying. The Jade Emperor agreed, yet never sent the rain so the four dragons took it upon themselves to gather water from the lakes and spray it across the heavens.
When the Jade Emperor discovered what they’d done, he had four mountains placed over the dragons so they would be trapped for all eternity. The four dragons turned themselves into rivers to flow around the mountains. The rivers became known as the Long River (Yangtze), Black Dragon (Herilongjian), the Pearl River (Zhujiang), and Yellow River (Huanghe).
The Nine Dragons
In Chinese culture, nine is the sacred number of the emperor. There are three Nine Dragon Walls in China. The most notable one in Beijing that depicts over 635 dragons.
There are nine different types of dragons that serve the world. The dragon king can change into nine different forms. Nine sons were born to the dragon king. The significance of the number nine continues throughout Chinese mythology and culture.
Horned Dragon – Giver of rain
Winged Dragon – Domain over the wind
Celestial Dragon – Protector of heavenly mansions of gods
Spirit or Spiritual Dragon – Blesses earth with rain and wind
Earth Dragon – God of lakes, rivers and seas

Yellow Dragon – Emerged from water to bestow art of writing to Emperor Fu Shi
Dragon King – God of the wind and sea and all four directions, east, west, north and south
Dragon Elements In Every Day Life
Ancient China dragons are such an intricate part of the Chinese culture that they’re found in almost every kind of artform and architecture as symbols of protection and prosperity.

What is Feng Shui ?

What is Feng Shui? This is a simple question that can be difficult to answer. Feng Shui is an ancient art and science developed over 3,000 years ago in China. It is a complex body of knowledge that reveals how to balance the energies of any given space to assure the health and good fortune for people inhabiting it. Feng means wind and shui means water.

In Chinese culture wind and water are associated with good health, thus good feng shui came to mean good fortune, while bad feng shui means bad luck, or misfortune.

Feng Shui is based on the Taoist vision and understanding of nature, particularly on the idea that the land is alive and filled with Chi, or energy. The ancient Chinese believed that the land's energy could either make or break the kingdom, so to speak. The theories of yin and yang, as well as the five feng shui elements, are some of the basic aspects of a feng shui analysis that come from Taoism. The main tools used in a feng shui analysis are the Compass and the Ba-Gua. The Ba-Gua is an octagonal grid containing the symbols of the I Ching, the ancient oracle on which Feng Shui is based. Knowing the Bagua of your home will help you understand the connection of specific feng shui areas of your home to specific areas of your life.
